Allison & Jack

When Allison & Jack let me know they were flying to Michigan from North Carolina for a wedding this summer….we all knew it was the perfect time to do their engagement pictures.

We met half way in Ludington…which was perfect because we took some shots downtown, the beach and the State Park. I love sessions where we get a bunch of different looks.

Can’t wait for their wedding in North Carolina this Fall!

Bailey & Brian

I was so excited when Bailey & Brian asked me to shoot their Louisiana wedding.

Let me tell you… Abbeville, Louisiana didn’t disappoint. Not only was the quite little town full of charm, but Bailey’s family

has lived there for generations.  In fact the property we used as a backdrop for family photos has been in the family since the 1800’s.

Everywhere you looked there were gorgeous Live Oak trees and colorful buildings that reminded one of New Orleans.

Bailey’s parents know how to throw a party…..they held the reception in their beautiful backyard.

Bailey’s dad even sang a few songs later in the night….even singing his rendition of G-L-O-R-I-A only

he changed it to B-A-I-L-E-Y. I think I realized at this point it was going to be a late one…3:30am to be exact.

Everyone we met there was fantastic and made us feel like family. (even though we are from the North)

Alison & Rob

April 14, 2012

How lucky am I? My first two weddings this year were friends of mine.

I was honored to be part of Alison & Rob’s wedding this past weekend. I knew it would be beautiful, fun and full of vintage style. We shot their engagement pictures this past Fall and to date is one of my favorite engagement sessions.

These two had the perfect day… not only was it suppose to rain and didn’t, but we lucked out with 60 degree weather. Not bad for April in Michigan.

It was so great to work with fellow artists who had a vision and were surrounded by people they love that made it happen.

I still have to say that Alison’s dad gave the best Father of the Bride speech I have ever heard. It is an art to make people cry and laugh all at the same time.

Andrea & Jim

March 10, 2012

Key Wild, Wild West!!!

What a great place for a wedding. Andrea and Jim had a perfect beach wedding in Key West.

Their wedding was both beautiful and laid back. The weather was perfect and every single person there was fantastic.

It was an honor to shoot their destination wedding and is an honor to call them friends.

I am always so happy to see two great families come together.

Jim and Andrea….Congratulations!

Here’s to years of happiness and adventure!

Maureen & Chris

What a great couple!

They remained cool all day, even though it was one of the hottest days so far this summer.  They broke the rules and did it their way!

Maureen & Chris decided to see each other before the ceremony, so we could bounce around downtown and get all our pictures done beforehand.

Since the art festival was going on downtown & the streets were packed…this was a fantastic decision.

They had their ceremony and reception at the same venue downtown…which just happened to be in the heart of the festival.

How many grooms do you know put getting a picture taken with a police officer down on their shot list?

Amanda & Brian

What a great way to start off the wedding season!

Amanda & Brian, high school sweethearts,  just moved back from Arizona to Michigan.  I had the privilege to capture their wedding day festivites. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Flint, one of the prettiest I have seen. The stained glass windows were Tiffany…need I say more.

The whole wedding party was a riot and didn’t have any problem stopping traffic downtown. We almost didn’t make it to the reception since the bus didn’t want to go over 25mph on the highway. So we thought pushing the bu would be a great photo op once we finally made it.

Congrats Amanda & Brian!

Reasons to Consider Having Your Wedding During the Winter

Whenever you think of a wedding, you usually assume it will take place sometime in the summer months right along with all the other weddings. Sometimes you might even have two you are supposed to attend on the same day. If you are recently engaged and want an event that is a little different, you might consider choosing a date sometime after turkey day and before everyone starts going on spring break.

~One of the best reasons….you have a better chance to get your dream venue. If you marry in the summer, many times you need to book a year or two out to ensure you will be able to get into the location you want.

~Sometimes venues will offer an off-season discount. Prices tend to come down a bit after the peak months which are usually May- November. Venues are not as busy and seem to be able to accommodate any special requests a little easier.

~Winter themes are a fun twist on a wedding. Not only do you have a different palette of colors to pick from, but so many Christmas/Winter details to throw in at a moments notice.

~Your guests will enjoy a break from the winter blahs. Especially if you choose January through March, not much ever seems to happen during these months.

~You will WANT to take your honeymoon right after the wedding. If you are getting married in the Midwest…there is no reason to miss out on the few warm months we have. A new trend I have noticed is a couple getting married in the summer and then opting to wait to take their honeymoon in the winter. Throwing a winter wedding…. you are more likely to jump on the first plane you can to get you out of the snow. Just think of all the anniversaries you can celebrate in warm locations.

~In the end… your images are what you are going to look at for years to come. Your pictures will stand out from some of your traditional summer wedding pictures. Granted I love summer weddings, but there is something to be said about getting married in a winter wonderland. If you do it up right…throw a faux fur wrap around your shoulders for warmth/glam and brave it out in the cold for at least a little while…your pictures can be breathtaking.
